Once I started to clear my skin and reduce my acne, I was introduced to Dermapen. Dermapen treatments create minute fractional channels into the skin’s surface. This triggers an organic healing cascade encouraging natural skin healing, renewal and repair. The skin’s processes are progressively strengthened and normalised promoting intensive regeneration. During the treatment a slight sting and vibrating effect can be felt as the pen glides over the skin. Dermapen has the ability to induce new collagen production which successfully treats fine lines, wrinkles, sagging contours and tired looking skin.
In my case I received Dermapen for the scars which were left behind from my acne. Damaged tissue is replaced with fresh collagen deposition to reduce the appearance of indentations and uneven skin texture. You should wait for the skin to clear up before receiving skin needling. You should avoid resurfacing procedures when the barrier function is already compromised. If you get skin needling with acne it can spread the bacteria and make the skin worse.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Does skin needling hurt?
I’m not going to lie and say it does not hurt at all. I am aware that some places apply a topical numbing solution before going ahead with the treatment to help with any pain or discomfort. In my case my therapist decided that the numbing cream was not necessary, as I can tolerate the pain. My therapist educated me on the fact that numbing cream can cause vasoconstriction and full the inflammatory process which will require more treatments as the results wont be as good. It feels hot and stingy while its getting done and you will get pin point bleeding which is needed to produce the new collagen. After the treatment it feels like a light sunburn and the skin is hot and very tight.
How many treatments will I need to start seeing results?
6-8 treatments are recommended to reduce scarring. I have received 2 skin needling treatments so far and have seen a result already. My skin has become plumper, smoother and overall clearer. It is recommended to receive the skin needling 2 weeks apart.
Is there downtime after the treatment?
Generally, no. With myself my skin was just red for about 24 hrs. My skin therapist puts on a light coverage tint after the treatment to camouflage any redness. It is important that what the therapist applies to skin after skin needling is either prescribed from the company who sold you the machine or is very basic and wont harm. The channels created in the skin are considered to be open for up to 24 hours so after care is very important as everything will be absorbed easier.
